This imposing Thistle Sculpture, affectionately known as Patrick’s Thistle, stands over two metres tall and is a powerful tribute to David’s father, Patrick. Meticulously handcrafted from mild steel, it is constructed from over 1,500 individual metal pieces, each carefully shaped and assembled to create a towering representation of the iconic thistle. This work was a collaboration between David and Patrick, a master craftsman who taught David many of the skills that have shaped him into the artist he is today, making the piece deeply personal. The sculpture embodies themes of strength, sacrifice, family, and nature—qualities reflected in both the plant’s resilient form and Patrick’s legacy. Its towering presence commands attention, inviting reflection on enduring family bonds and generational sacrifices. The intricate craftsmanship blends industrial toughness with organic inspiration, standing as a testament to personal history and the spirit symbolized by the thistle.
